Cuddly Cats Taking Over Their Humans’ Beds for a Night Full of Purrs and Snuggles

Sharing a bed with a cat sounds incredibly cozy, and most of the time, it is. The part nobody mentions is that we're somehow the ones fighting for space despite being significantly larger than our furry bedmates.

Anyone who regularly sleeps with a cat knows that they tend to have a preferred spot. Maybe it's curled up by our feet, tucked against our side, or planted directly on our chest like a tiny weighted blanket. After enough nights together, it becomes part of the bedtime routine. We get into bed, get comfortable, and leave room for the inevitable arrival of the cat.

Growing up around cats, we've gotten very used to adjusting our sleeping positions around whichever furry friend has decided to join us for the night. Moving a sleeping cat somehow feels completely unreasonable, so instead we move ourselves. We'll sleep diagonally, give up half a pillow, or keep one leg frozen in an awkward position because there's a cat using it as a headrest.

They also don't always stay where they started. A cat who went to sleep peacefully at the foot of the bed can somehow end up beside our head by morning. Sometimes we wake up with a cat pressed against our back. Other times, there's a paw on our face or a furry little body stretched across the exact part of the mattress we were hoping to use.

And yet, the nights when they're not there can feel strangely empty.

That's probably our favorite part of sharing a bed with a cat. Eventually, their little bedtime habits become part of ours. We expect the sound of them jumping onto the mattress. We know whether they're going to crawl under the covers or walk across us three times before settling down. We even start making room for them before they arrive.

Sure, we probably don't need to give a ten-pound cat half of a queen-sized bed. We could move them when they're taking up our pillow, and we definitely don't have to stay perfectly still because they've fallen asleep against our legs.

But when they're curled up beside us, warm and purring, it's hard to care very much about any of that.

So, this collection is for all the cats who have claimed a permanent spot in their humans' beds… and all the cat people who wouldn't dream of kicking them out.

  • Sometimes we just want to cuddle our cats, whether they're interested in participating or not. They're sitting there looking all soft and adorable, and somehow we're expected to resist picking them up for a quick snuggle? Of course, our cats usually have no problem letting us know when cuddle time is over. We'll take the few seconds of affection before they wiggle free and go right back to ignoring us.

  • For being such small animals, cats have an impressive ability to take up as much of the bed as they want. They stretch out across the middle, steal our pillows, and somehow leave us clinging to the edge of a mattress that we paid for. Obviously, we're not going to move them once they've gotten comfortable. So we squeeze into whatever space is left and accept that our tiny roommate apparently needs more room than we do.
